Who is Makeshift and where you from?

It’s ya dude Makeshift! a.k.a Mr. Been Up On it a.k.a Like Yesterday a.k.a King Choosey, an MC/Producer from Sunny Southern San Diego born in National City, ‘86 baby!

What is the San Diego skateboarding scene like?

Shit’s dope. You got all kinds of kids out here rippin and putting SD on the map in a major way. It’s all one big family.

I know you make music…so lemme ask. Did skateboarding influence your musical style? or vice versa??

I’d say they kinda influence each other. I’ve always been into music but my first love is skateboarding and will always be. Music got me hyped to skate and skating gets me hyped to make music. ’Keep skate vids on mute and create the soundtracks…word to my dude PCH!

Who should we be hyped on coming outta San Diego these days?

ROLL CALL! Jamie Palmore…off top! Larelle Gray, Kellen James, Nick Tucker, Daniel Rodriguez…man people on this site know…the whole Sk8mafioso! Jimmy Cao and the whole Sk858 posse…what up Gille?! Lenny Rivas and my dude Marcus Allen of course…they’re all killin it right now.

Who did you grow up skateboarding with?

The O.G skate posse was Larelle, Kellen, Marcus, Gabe De La Mora, and Lenny. And even before that Lolo and I got introduced to skateboarding by my boy Tommy Guns…6th grade shit…those were the days!

Whats your favorite eatery jumpoff?

Favorite? damn….currently I’m feelin this spot called El Zarape in University Heights. I recommend that everyone gets a bar of that mahi mahi one time. Still up on the Roberto’s to Lolita’s taco shops. I mess wit some restaurants too but if you live in SD, you know we stay burpin up somethin smellin like tacos and Coronas so I won’t drop those names.

What is the worst/best thing about riding the trolley? any stories?

Haha man I got a million trolley stories. Good thing about the trolley is you really don’t gotta pay to ride that muffuka. If you’re reall ill at hoppin the trolley you develop this sense of knowin what trolley car to get on at the right time when no cops are on. You could hit all your favorite spots in SD for free…it takes you from TJ to South East daygo to the beach to Santee…all over! Trolley stories? I got tons! Put it this way, when you mix bums, east county bro’s, banged out bloods/crips, skaters and everything else…you’re bound to be entertained on a trolley ride. I’ve definitely seen a lot of blood shed at trolley stops to say the least.

So you just dropped your second project entitled ‘NO DOZE’…what’s next?

Yes sir! No Doze is out now! Next is a beat tape I’m doing titled ‘Sleepless’. All produced by myself…that should be out in the next 2 months. The next project after that will be my full length LP. Be on the look for that early 2010.

Lyrically…who’s killen it these days?

Um, ME! nah but real talk, My dude PCH aka Piff California Herrera, Elzhi, Jay Rock, my dude Hassaan Mackey, Sirah and everyone featured on the No Doze Mixtape as well as all the greats still doin it.

What should we expect to see in your new spot  on SDskateboarding.com ‘Makeshift Mondays’?

Man, I’ll be droppin exculive tracks found only on this site as well as some old skate footage of me…maybe some new footy too. Pretty much whatever I’m feelin at the moment…I might just clown fools on Mondays…there’s a lot in store though…stay tuned kids.
